The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is conducting its second global assessment of biodiversity and ecosystem services. The draft scoping report, a preliminary document outlining the framework for the full assessment, is undergoing external review from 27 May to 30 June 2024.
The global assessment aims to evaluate evidence related to progress in achieving several of the 23 targets outlined in the Global Biodiversity Framework by 2030. These targets include conserving 30% of land, sea, and inland waters, restoring 30% of degraded ecosystems, and halving the introduction of invasive alien species.
Biodiversa+ is hosting an online webinar on 7 June, 10:00 (CEST), to help experts understand the IPBES scoping process and participate in the review. Our guest speaker will be Prof. Josef Settele, a co-chair of the first Global Assessment and a current MEP (Multidisciplinary Expert Panel) member leading the scoping of the second assessment.
Webinar topics will include:
- Introduction to IPBES and its assessments
- Biodiversa+’s collaboration with IPBES
- A brief overview of the First Global Assessment and its key learnings
- Presentation of the second global assessment’s scoping report
- How to become a reviewer for the draft report
