In September 2023, Biodiversa+ organised a capacity building webinar on image-based approaches for biodiversity monitoring.
As part of this webinar, Hilde Eggermont, the Biodiversa+ Chair & Coordinator first introduced Biodiversa+ and Lars Dinesen from IFD introduced the objectives of the webinar. A first speaker, David Roy from the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology then explained how to integrate novel technologies in existing biodiversity monitoring programs.
His presentation was followed by an introduction on image-based approaches for biodiversity monitoring by Pierre Bonned from the CIRAD and Pl@ntNet. Rita Pucci from Naturalis Netherlands then explained how to build image classifiers for species recognition. After a short break, Toke Thomas Høye from the Ministry of Environment of Denmark showcased how in the Biodiversa+ biodiversity monitoring invasive alien species pilot image-based approaches are concretely used at a large geographical scale to monitor invasive nocturnal moths and invasive alien plants. Lars Dinesen then concluded the webinar.
