Biodiversa+ is pleased to present its mapping of national and sub-national organisations funding and steering biodiversity monitoring schemes!
This mapping covers 23 countries and shows that:
- In most countries, Ministries of Environment and/or Environmental Protection Agencies are the actors in charge of steering and governing biodiversity monitoring schemes
- In 2/3 of the studied countries, biodiversity monitoring governance is split by realms. The mapping also identifies the main organisations involved in the coordination of these schemes.
- In 72% of the studied countries, budget figures related to the coordination of biodiversity monitoring schemes or biodiversity monitoring are available.
This mapping aims to support the set-up of a European Biodiversity Observation Network and the possible development of a EuropeanBiodiversity Monitoring Coordination Centre (platform) and its (sub)-national counterparts, for an improved biodiversity monitoring in Europe across all taxa and realms in space and time.
