The Biodiversa+ Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) sets out the long-term vision of the Partnership, outlining the broad research themes that guide its activities.

The SRIA was prepared by the Biodiversa+ Chairs Team together with all partners, and enriched through an open consultation with key academic and non-academic organisations in the fields of biodiversity, ecosystem services, and Nature-based Solutions.

It identifies three Topical Themes with associated knowledge needs, and two Cross-cutting Themes addressing overarching issues relevant across all areas. These themes are closely aligned with the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, are action-oriented with strong societal impact, and push the boundaries of science. They foster synergies across sectors, actors, and policies, and contribute to the EU’s long-term strategic research agenda for biodiversity.

It should be made clear that these themes will not necessarily translate directly into specific Flagship Programmes or calls for research, as these may instead combine elements of both Topical and Cross-cutting Themes.of Biodiversa+

  • Better knowledge to develop, deploy and assess nature-based solutions (including the BiodivNBS Call, launched in 2023)
  • Supporting societal transformation for the sustainable use and management of biodiversity (including the BiodivTransform Call, launched in 2024)

Each Flagship is a multi-annual programme comprising a portfolio of activities spanning the various Biodiversa+ work streams, including:

Biodiversa+ aims to enhance the efficiency and impact of its activities by creating synergies and cross-linkages between its flagship programmes. It ensures systemic efforts through collaborations and complementarity with existing initiatives, partnerships, and Horizon Europe’s calls.
