Date & time: 4 December 2026, 08:45-13:15 CET
Location: Brussels and online
The European Commission is organising a high-level event on 4 December 2026 to present the progress and achievements of the EU Science Service for Biodiversity (SSBD).
Developed through the Horizon Europe-funded BioAgora project, the SSBD is designed to help policymakers access and use scientific knowledge to inform biodiversity policies and decisions. It will serve as the scientific pillar of the European Commission’s Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity (KCBD).
Programme
The programme will feature:
- A keynote address by Dr Luthando Dziba, Executive Secretary of IPBES, on the global biodiversity science-policy interface.
- Speeches and a panel discussion with senior representatives of the European Commission.
- A presentation of the Science Service’s achievements, including outputs on urban greening, pollinators and wetlands, as well as a report supporting the future EU Research Agenda for Biodiversity.
Biodiversa+ collaborates with BioAgora to strengthen links between biodiversity research and policymaking in Europe. The development of the Science Service is an important step towards making scientific knowledge more accessible and relevant to policy needs.
Registration
The event is open to policymakers and researchers from all disciplines, particularly those involved in research programming and science-policy-society interfaces.
Participation is possible in Brussels or online. In-person attendance is limited to 100 participants, with registrations subject to review and confirmation.
