Season’s greetings!
2025 marked another active year for Biodiversa+. As we close the year, we bring together selected highlights that reflect the breadth of work carried out across the Partnership.
With our best wishes for the year ahead!
Research & Innovation
BiodivClim final events
BiodivClim concluded with events sharing results on biodiversity and climate change, reflecting on lessons learned and how projects can inform climate-resilient biodiversity action.

BiodivConnect launch
We launched a new call on restoring ecosystem functioning, integrity, and connectivity. Applications closed in November, with first-step evaluation results expected in February 2026.
BiodivRestore conference
From research to real-world restoration, the BiodivRestore Conference showcased project results and explored how science can support ecosystem restoration targets across Europe.
BodivTransform results
We selected 35 R&I projects to explore the links between biodiversity loss, climate change, pollution, and the transformative solutions needed for systemic change. Kick-off in April 2026!
Biodiversity monitoring
Monitoring science fair
Our Barcelona events explored how the synergy of people, technology, and data is driving practical solutions across frontiers for the future of integrated monitoring.

Sustainable monitoring report
What makes biodiversity monitoring last? This report explored conditions for sustainable schemes, from governance and funding to coordination and long-term policy relevance.
Of Hubs & specifications
How can local data feed European assessments? This report proposed thematic hubs and common specifications to support protocol harmonisation across scales.
Pilot projects
While ongoing pilots continued gathering insights on harmonising methods and deploying technology, three new pilots have been developed and are set for launch in early 2026.
Nature-based Solutions (NbS) & Biodiversity valuation
NbS case study guidelines
Guidelines were published to support uploading and updating NbS case studies, helping ensure consistency, quality and usability of evidence across repositories.

Mapping NbS research
Where is NbS R&I heading? We updated the NetworkNature database, revealing new trends, gaps, and opportunities across the European NbS landscape.
BiodivNBS kick-off
BiodivNBS projects have begun, advancing research on how NbS can balance synergies and trade-offs, halt biodiversity loss, and drive equitable, sustainable change.
Business & biodiversity
To support businesses under growing pressure to understand and manage their relationship with nature, this report outlined the key policies, actors, and tools shaping the landscape.
Support to policy
Foresight policy briefs
Policy briefs showed how foresight tools can strengthen biodiversity policy and action, highlighting ways to anticipate change and support more robust, forward-looking decisions.

Dialogue on restoration plans
We organised a dialogue on national restoration plans to capture perspectives and reflect on implementation challenges and opportunities across Europe.
Protected areas effectiveness
What do we know about protected areas? We mapped global evidence to shed light on assessment approaches and gaps, supporting better evaluation and management.
BiodivClim issue briefs
Three issue briefs translated key research on climate-biodiversity links, highlighting how biodiversity strengthens Europe’s soils, forests, and landscapes against climate change.
Internationalisation
IPBES engagement
We continued collaborating with IPBES, including by hosting the TSU on Knowledge Generation Catalysis and organising webinars to support expert involvement.

PESC Meeting Report
In collaboration with RESPIN and ECA Network, we co-hosted an event to strengthen biodiversity and climate research links across Europe and Central Asia.
CBD
We continued aligning European R&I with global biodiversity targets, including through a dedicated workshop and a guide on CBD processes.
Key collaborations
We reinforced collaboration with other key initiatives, launching two new key collaborations and preparing two additional ones to strengthen coordination.
