Biodiversa+ is looking for a new Operational Manager to join its management team.
Position
The selected candidate will be based in the European & International Coordination Department at the French Foundation for Biodiversity Research.
As Operational manager in charge of governance, the candidate will collaborate closely with two other Operational Managers (hosted at FRB & ANR, France) with distinct responsibilities in Team Development and Administrative/Financial Coordination.
Reporting to the Biodiversa+ Chairs Team, the candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective operation and governance of the partnership.
Key responsibilities
- Team management
- Supervise 5 Officers (based in France & Belgium) working on Nature-based Solutions, Business & Biodiversity, Communication, Internationalisation, and Stakeholder Engagement.
- Conduct annual staff reviews, coordinating with line managers at FRB (France) and BELSPO (Belgium) and the Operational Manager responsible for team development.
- Co-lead Operational Team meetings and foster collaboration across the partnership.
- EU project coordination
- Oversee work plan implementation for assigned work packages.
- Ensure financial management at the work package level in coordination with Administrative & Financial Officers and the Operational Manager responsible for coordination.
- Lead the preparation of work plans, technical reports, and amendments to the Partnership Grant Agreement, working closely with other Operational Managers.
- Governance
- Organise key governance meetings (General Assembly, Executive Board, meetings with the European Commission), in collaboration with other Operational Managers and with the support from the Executive Assistant.
- Coordinate internal meetings and liaise with Biodiversa+ Partners in close collaboration with the Operational Manager responsible for coordination.
The selected candidate will also take part in weekly FRB executive committee meetings.
Your profile
- Education and work experience
- Master’s degree in social, political, or natural sciences
- Professional experience in the fields of environment, biodiversity, or science-policy interfacing
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar role, including 2 years in project and team management, preferably in an international/European setting
- Experience with budget management
- Skills and personal qualities
- Strong team management skills, capacity to ensure team cohesion and engagement
- Organisational skills and self-managing (ability to define priorities for oneself and others)
- Team-oriented with the ability to work in a multicultural, multi-actor environment
- Capacity to navigate complex governance structures and respect frameworks
- Ability to multi-task, think strategically, and solve problems pragmatically
- Strong synthesis, analysis, writing, and communication skills
- Language requirements
- Fluent English (primary working language)
- French proficiency (FRB’s working environment)
