Biodiversity data is increasingly needed for reporting, certification, environmental impact assessment and nature-positive strategies. Yet a large share of the data collected by private companies remains difficult to access, reuse or connect with wider biodiversity knowledge systems.
On Wednesday 3 June 2026, 13:00 (UTC+2), Biodiversa+ will host a webinar to present its “Business guide to sharing biodiversity data”, part of the Business & Biodiversity Toolkit.
The guide explores how private companies can share biodiversity data more effectively, while addressing practical questions around data ownership, licensing, standards, platforms, sensitive information and long-term data stewardship. It also identifies different profiles of companies that generate biodiversity data, from businesses with direct operational impacts to companies working across value chains, restoration initiatives, biodiversity credits, environmental consultancies and nature tech providers.
During this 45-minute webinar, participants will hear from the authors of the guide, followed by a Q&A session. The webinar will introduce:
- why private sector biodiversity data remains an underused resource;
- common barriers to data sharing, including ownership, licensing and capacity;
- relevant standards and platforms, such as Darwin Core, GBIF and OBIS;
- practical steps companies can take to prepare, publish and maintain biodiversity data.
This webinar is part of a short Biodiversa+ series presenting the Business & Biodiversity Toolkit, a set of practical guides to help organisations mobilise biodiversity data for nature-positive action. Another webinar focuses on using public biodiversity data for assessment, reporting and action.
