The Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) has published its Business and Biodiversity Assessment, the first global evaluation of how businesses depend on and impact biodiversity, and how governance systems shape these relationships. It was approved by the Plenary at IPBES-12, held in Manchester from 3 to 9 February 2026.
To catalyse further supportive efforts, IPBES invites governments, organisations and individuals to support uptake and use of the assessment.
Examples of concrete ways to support uptake and use of the Business and Biodiversity Assessment:
- Guidance and workshops for decision-makers at the regional, national and subnational levels on how to translate the options for action set out in the assessment report into policy, decisions and actions.
- Workshops to foster cross-sectoral collaboration, including with the private sector, to implement actions.
- Training courses for education settings focusing on the use of the assessment.
- Factsheets and other materials to support uptake of the assessment.
Reporting capacity-building activities is essential for establishing mapping of efforts and for supporting mutual learning. All submitted activities and contributions, planned or completed, will be reported to the IPBES-13 Plenary (end of 2027).
Online dialogue on the Business and Biodiversity Assessment Report
IPBES is also organising a global dialogue for stakeholders on the Business and Biodiversity Assessment Report, and more generally on the use of IPBES products in policy-making, on 21 April 2026.
The dialogue workshop is intended to advance the implementation of the IPBES rolling work programme up to 2030, with a particular focus on policy support, as well as on enhancing the recognition of Indigenous and local knowledge identified in IPBES assessments.
