Join us in Montpellier, France, from 4 to 8 May 2026 for the first BioMonWeek, a new European conference dedicated to biodiversity monitoring. Co-organised by Biodiversa+, Alliance for Nature, BioAgora, GBIF ECA and MARCO-BOLO, the event will bring together researchers, monitoring professionals, policymakers, private sector actors and students from across Europe.
Biodiversity monitoring involves a wide range of actors and initiatives. Across Europe, data are collected on species, habitats and ecosystem change through national programmes, research projects and thematic networks. Yet these efforts often remain disconnected, making it difficult to compare results, combine datasets or build a consistent picture at European scale.
At a time when biodiversity conservation and restoration are high on the policy agenda, stronger monitoring systems are needed to provide reliable, comparable and usable data. These systems are essential to guide decisions, assess progress and adapt strategies over time.
BioMonWeek offers a space to address these challenges collectively. It aims to bring the biodiversity monitoring community together to exchange experience, align approaches and explore how to strengthen coordination across countries and sectors.
It is the starting point for:
- monitoring actors to strengthen collaboration,
- researchers and data specialists to align methods and integrate new technologies,
- private sector actors and decision-makers to make better use of monitoring data.
By fostering dialogue and collaboration, the BioMonWeek contributes to ongoing efforts to build more connected and effective biodiversity monitoring across Europe.
