What do we aim at?

Biodiversa+ promotes Research and Innovation (R&I) in the context of international agreements including the Convention on Biological Diversity (CDB) and its strategic plan for the decade 2022-2030, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

To reinforce the science-policy interface on biodiversity at the global level, Biodiversa+ aims to ensure European research supports international processes by carrying out 2 types of activities:

  1. Capacity-building activities, including the organisation of events and the development of learning materials, targeting researchers funded under Biodiversa+ calls.
  2. Communication activities, including the organisation of international meetings and the dissemination of relevant research results and outcomes.
Our key activities

Relevant workstreams are developed alongside CO-OP4CBD, our key collaborator.

Beyond the strengthening of its collaboration with the CBD, through its funding calls and monitoring activities, Biodiversa+ contributes to the implementation of the GBF, especially targets 20 and 21.

  • Capacity-building workshops and webinars: these activities focus on engagement at various levels in CBD processes and on promoting the global impact of their research results. They target researchers funded through Biodiversa+ calls.
  • Organisation of side events at COPs or SBSTTA meetings: these events aim to promote capacity-building activities, collaborate with similar initiatives, and transfer relevant knowledge to negotiators.
  • Factsheets preparation: the factsheets support the implementation of the GBF and CBD decisions using results from funded projects. They help identify project contributions to the GBF implementation and integrate researchers into CBD processes.
  • Development of a CBD guide for Experts (in partnership with the European CO-OP4CBD project): this guide will present different ways for researchers to engage with CBD processes, develop knowledge on the science-policy interface, and provide practical tools to mobilise and involve researchers in policy-relevant activities.
