The preliminary results of the BiodivConnect call are in: 36 transnational research projects have been recommended for funding, with a proposed budget of over €50 million. If confirmed, this would be the largest budget for a joint call in Biodiversa’s history.
The 2025-2026 call, “Restoration of ecosystem functioning, integrity, and connectivity”, supports research to improve how ecosystems are restored and how the success of restoration is assessed. The recommended projects cover a wide range of environments and approaches, from restoring kelp forests and seagrass meadows to reconnecting rivers and floodplains, recovering soil biodiversity on agricultural land, and creating urban nature hubs. They explore both the ecological processes that underpin restoration and the social and economic conditions needed to put it into practice.
These recommendations remain subject to final decisions by all participating national and regional funding organisations, including confirmation of their committed budgets. Publication of the final results is planned for end November 2026, once these decisions have been completed.
