Webinar: Successful Ecosystem Restoration through Biosecure Nursery Production

With the incoming implementation of the Nature Restoration Regulation, EU Member States are facing many challenges in the establishment of national strategies and action plans on nature restoration. In this context, the BiodivRestore Knowledge Hub, a group of experts supporting Nature Restoration Regulation, published four policy briefs providing recommendations for successful restoration operations at national level, part of the Nature Restoration Regulation Policy Briefs series.

On Thursday 10 September 2026, 14:00 CEST, Biodiversa+ will host a webinar to present the Policy Brief “Successful Ecosystem Restoration through Biosecure Nursery Production“.

The brief explores how to prevent the spread of invasive soilborne pathogens such as Phytophthora, which can cause massive decline and prolonged mortality across a wide range of plant species and forests. Ensuring restoration activities don’t become a pathway for disease is essential, as unchecked spread can undermine the very ecosystems restoration is meant to recover. Since nurseries are the main entry point for pathogens like Phytophthora, implementing biosecurity measures is key to ensuring pathogen-free plant production.

During this webinar, participants will hear from the authors of the briefs, followed by a Q&A session. The webinar will introduce:

• how soilborne pathogens threaten ecosystem restoration in Europe;
• the current European framework and its gaps;
• the key elements of an effective accreditation system;
• practical recommendations for policymakers, to support National Restoration Plans.
