Global Biodiversity Framework Action Plan

How will Biodiversa+ support the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework, to halt biodiversity loss by 2030 and achieve the vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050?

Biodiversa+ can play a key role in enabling evidence-based implementation of the GBF across Europe by networking and strengthening research, monitoring, innovation, policy advice, and international cooperation.

This Action Plan focuses on three strategic areas of support:

1. Mainstreaming & capacity building

• Advancing the integration of biodiversity across sectors such as agriculture, forestry, and urban planning, facilitating science.
• Facilitating science-policy dialogues.
• Conducting capacity-building initiatives.

2. Knowledge development & exchange

• Funding large-scale transnational research calls addressing topics aligned with the GBF, including nature-based solutions (NbS), transformative change, and biodiversity monitoring.
• Developing open science platforms, fact sheets, policy briefs and thematic Knowledge Hubs.
• Mapping international research collaborations to identify gaps and opportunities for strengthening science-policy interfaces.

3. Monitoring & reporting

• Developing harmonised European biodiversity monitoring programmes.
• Supporting the establishment of national monitoring coordination centres.
• Implementing monitoring pilots in different areas, to establish Europe-wide, interconnected, indicator-based monitoring systems that improves countries’ GBF reporting.

This Action Plan highlights collaborations with key actors involved in GBF implementation.
