Biodiversa+ has released a new series of three Issue Briefs from the BiodivClim programme, showing how biodiversity can make Europe’s soils, forests, and landscapes more resilient to climate change.
Drawing on the latest results from pan-European research projects, the briefs provide actionable insights for policymakers and land managers working to implement the European Green Deal. Together, they address some of the continent’s most pressing challenges, including strengthening agriculture against drought, protecting coastlines, and preparing forests for a changing climate.
The briefs highlight:
- How soil biodiversity underpins food production, climate mitigation, and ecosystem restoration
- Why mixed-species forests and targeted financial incentives are essential for resilience.
- How Nature-based Solutions, from perennial crops to Arctic community practices, can deliver long-term adaptation.
A common message runs through the series: one-size-fits-all approaches are failing. Resilience depends on solutions tailored to local ecological and social contexts, supported by smart policies, and developed in collaboration with the communities who manage Europe’s land.
