Have you contributed to the uptake of IPBES Nexus and Transformative Change Assessments?
The IPBES Assessment of the Interlinkages among Biodiversity, Water, Food and Health IPBES Nexus Assessment) provides decision-makers around the world with the most comprehensive scientific evaluation to date of these complex interconnections. It explores a diverse range of response options to maximise co-benefits across five “nexus elements”: biodiversity, water, food, health and climate change.
The Nexus Assessment was approved by the last Plenary at IPBES11, at the same time as the Assessment of the Underlying Causes of Biodiversity Loss and the Determinants of Transformative Change and Options for Achieving the 2050 Vision for Biodiversity (Transformative Change Assessment). It explains what transformative change is, how it occurs, and how to accelerate it for a just and sustainable world.
To catalyse further supportive efforts, the IPBES Secretariat is inviting governments, organisations and individuals to support the uptake and use of both assessments.
Examples of concrete contributions to support uptake and use of the Nexus and Transformative Change Assessments
- Workshops to foster cross-sectoral collaboration, including with the private sector, to implement relevant policy options set out in the IPBES Nexus and Transformative Change Assessment reports;
- Training courses for formal and informal education settings focusing on the use of IPBES assessments and products;
- Development of fact sheets and other materials to support uptake of the Nexus and Transformative Change Assessment reports;
- Practical guidance and workshops for decision makers on how to translate specific policy options set out in the IPBES Nexus and Transformative Change Assessment reports into policy, legislation, decisions and actions at the regional, national and subnational levels with due regard to their specific contexts.
If you have been organising such contribution or know of one, don’t hesitate to report it through this link by the end of January 2026. Reporting is essential for establishing activity mapping and for monitoring the use of the assessment. All activities submitted by December 2025 will be reported to the IPBES Plenary at its 12th session (February 2026).
