In late September, Biodiversa+ participated in the NetworkNature Annual Event, “Busting Myths: People with Nature.” Researchers, practitioners, policymakers, businesses, and civil society united around a common goal: to challenge conventional wisdom and explore the transformative potential of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS).
This event brought together over 350 attendees, both in-person and online, and featured 24 speakers who debunked myths and offered fresh perspectives on how we can restore, manage, and value the natural world.
Key Takeaways
- Regenerating Nature: We must move beyond outdated practices in soil and water management. By integrating biodiversity across different land uses and aligning future planning with environmental goals, we can restore our ecosystems.
- Nature governance: Inclusive governance is essential to ensure fair distribution of nature’s benefits. Bridging the gap between science, policy, and local communities is crucial.
- Valuing Nature: We need to rethink how we assess nature’s worth, moving beyond monetary considerations. Embracing the plurality of nature’s values is key to its protection.
- Real-world applications of NbS: The event showcased 27 NbS case studies and offered opportunities to explore green urban initiatives in Brussels.
- The power of storytelling: Participants were encouraged to bust their own myths through storytelling and comic strips, highlighting the impact of narratives on our relationship with nature.
