Join Biodiversa+ and EuropaBON’s symposium at the ECCB on Tuesday!
This week, Biodiversa+ and EuropaBON are joining forces at the European Conference of Conservation Biology (ECCB). On Tuesday at 14:00, the two initiatives are co-organising a symposium on “The Future of Biodiversity Monitoring in Europe.”
The EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, a central element of the European Green Deal, represents a major effort to address the biodiversity crisis. To track progress toward its goals and support evidence-based decision-making, robust and harmonised biodiversity monitoring is essential. However, current efforts across Europe remain fragmented—across space, time, and species—and lack the integration needed to support effective policy and conservation action. Better coordination of data collection, flows, and reporting is essential, tailored to the needs of decision-makers at all levels.
This session presents concrete ways to strengthen and harmonise biodiversity monitoring in Europe, including:
- Assessing user and policy needs
- Mapping existing initiatives
- Identifying key monitoring variables
- Supporting EU Nature, Climate, Soil, and Bioeconomy policies
