About the Board

Stakeholder engagement is a cornerstone of Biodiversa+, with the Enlarged Stakeholder Board (ESB) serving as its main platform. The ESB brings together a wide variety of organisations active in biodiversity, ecosystem services, and Nature-based Solutions research and innovation. It plays an active role in shaping and implementing Biodiversa+ activities, ensuring their relevance for policy and practice, and supporting the uptake of results.

The ESB is renewed every 3.5 years through a public call for interest. The current mandate runs until September 2025.

Composition

The ESB is structured around six thematic colleges, each representing a key area of expertise and stakeholder interest:

Habitat, Species, & Nature Conservation

Including major initiatives in the field of conservation and protection of biodiversity.
Economic & Industrial Activities

Including private companies and industries concerned by biodiversity issues.
European Policy Makers & Advisors

Including European Commission Directorates, European institutions, and related advisory bodies.
Boundary Organisations (Science-Policy)

Including organisations facilitating dialogue and collaboration between scientific and policy communities.
Relations with the Public

Including organisations involved in citizen science, science communication, media, and public outreach.
Wild & Domestic Genetic Resources

Covering stakeholders working on the conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources.

Each of the colleges elects one representative and one substitute to serve as stakeholder members of the Biodiversa+ Advisory Board. The Chair of the ESB is elected by its members and also serves as Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board. The current ESB is chaired by Claire Brown (UNEP-WCMC).
