Launched in 2019 under Horizon 2020, the BiodivClim programme supported 21 research projects exploring the critical links between biodiversity and climate change. To mark the end of this major programme, Biodiversa+, in collaboration with The Nature of Cities, has developed three original comics inspired by findings from the projects.
Bringing science to life through stories
This initiative reflects Biodiversa+’s commitment to using creative approaches to share scientific knowledge. By blending scientific insights with storytelling, the comics offer an engaging way to explore complex environmental issues and reflect on our changing world.
Each story presents a different perspective on the challenges explored by BiodivClim. While fictional, the narratives remain closely tied to the science. QR codes within the comics link to the research projects that inspired them, allowing readers to dig deeper into the work behind the stories.
The three stories are:
- Tides of Change – A tale of mangroves, exploring their vital role in coastal ecosystems and how they are shaped by climate change.
- The Wheat Code – A story about sustainable farming, with a focus on soil health and the hidden microbial life beneath our feet.
- The Forest of Forgotten Futures – A narrative about tree connectivity and forest resilience, told through the lens of communication and cooperation in ecosystems.
